Waxing: How to Care for Your Skin and Make Results Last Longer
Waxing leaves your skin beautifully smooth, but the way you care for it before and after your appointment makes a big difference to your comfort, results and how long that silky finish lasts.
Whether you’re new to waxing or a regular visitor, these simple waxing care and aftercare tips will help you keep your skin happy, healthy, and hair-free for longer.
Pre-Waxing Skin Prep: How to Get the Best Results
A little preparation helps your wax go more smoothly (literally). Here’s how to get your skin ready:
- Gently exfoliate the day before your appointment to remove dead skin cells and lift any trapped hairs.
- Keep your skin clean and dry on the day and skip body oils, lotions or heavy creams.
- Avoid sun exposure, tanning or retinol-based products for at least 48 hours before your wax, as these can make your skin more sensitive.
- Check your hair length: around a quarter of an inch long (about the length of a grain of rice) is ideal for the wax to grip properly.
Following these simple pre-care steps helps reduce irritation and ensures smoother, longer-lasting results.
Waxing Aftercare: How to Keep Your Skin Smooth and Calm
Your skin will be more sensitive straight after waxing, so showing it a little TLC helps prevent irritation and extend your results.
Give Your Skin a Breather
For the first 24 to 48 hours, avoid hot baths, saunas, sunbeds, or heavy exercise that causes sweating. Your skin needs time to calm and settle. Wear loose, breathable clothing and skip perfumed lotions, deodorants, or body sprays on the treated area. Avoid direct sun exposure during this time too.
Exfoliate – But Gently
After about 48 hours, gentle exfoliation helps prevent ingrown hairs and keeps your skin smooth. Use a mild scrub, exfoliating mitt, or a chemical exfoliant (such as one with lactic acid) two to three times a week, but don’t overdo it. Always moisturise afterwards to keep your skin hydrated and supple.
Stay Consistent for the Best Results
Waxing regularly, usually every 3 to 6 weeks, depending on your hair growth and the area being treated, encourages finer, softer, and slower regrowth. With consistent treatments, you’ll enjoy smoother skin for longer and less discomfort over time.
Final Tip: Ask If You’re Unsure
If you’re ever unsure about what to use or avoid before or after your waxing treatment, just ask. I’m always happy to help you get the best from every visit and keep your skin looking its best between appointments.
